I. Who is eligible to partipate? A. Current county residents. B. Former county residents. C. Those with family roots in the county.
II. How much may I submit and what is the cost? A. Each household that meets the criteria in PART I is encouraged to send in 500 words of family history and one photograph to be published at no charge. B. If your ancestors were in the county previous to 1890, you may submit 500 words of pioneer history and a photograph. ONLY ONE pioneer story is permitted at no extra cost per family grouping or genealogy. You may combine your pioneer 500 words and photograph with the 500 words in II.A. into one 1,000 word article with two photographs. You may also choose, when you combine the two, to have a one-column photograph instead of two regular-sized photographs. C. Each additional word, over the free words described above, costs $.15. Each additional regular-sized photograph is $15.00. Additional column-wide, or double-deep photographs are $30.00 each. A two-column wide and double-deep photograph may be purchased for $45.00. This is recommended for large family groupings of more than 10 people.
III. What will I write? A. About your ancestors. Include how, why, and when they came to the county. Give birth, marriage, and death dates. B. Tell about yourself and current family. Narrate childhood events such as school days and illnesses. You may wish to include vocations and avocations. C. It is important to give details of your ancestry for future generations to read. D. We will not edit your work, and the story copyright remains in your name. Factual and typographical errors are the responsibility of the story submitter. E. Stories must be in NARRATIVE format.
IV. How do I prepare my article? A. Type or word process your article Do not use all capital letters. It MUST be double-spaced and on 20#, white paper. B. The title MUST be a family name. i.e. Descendants of Aaron Jones, or Aaron and Mary Jones, or The Aaron Jones Family. DO NOT use titles such as: My Grandfather. No subtiltes are allowed. C. You MUST include the following information at the end of the article. 1. Word count. 2. Your name and address. 3. Typed photograph captions.
V. How to submit photographs A. Send in DUPLICATES and not original photographs. We are not responsible for valuable family photographs. B. You may send in color or black & white copies up to 8"x10". C. Non digital photocopied prints will not be used, nor faded Polaroids. D. Laser prints MUST BE on photographic quality paper. E. We cannot accept copyrighted photographs. F. We will reduce all photographs to the regular-size of 2.5"x1.75", unless the story qualifies as a pioneer, or you pay the extra. G. You should ifentify your photograph for return to you by placing a return address label on the back. You can also write the information on the back with a photographic style felt tip pen. DO NOT use a ballpoint pen. H. If you wish to have your duplicate photograph(s)returned, include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your story submission. The envelope MUST be of adequate size with sufficient postage to hold and mail the photograph. I. Captions for your photograph(s) are limited to 10 words. The caption is to be typed at the end of your story, not written on the back of the photograph.
VI. Topical articles A. There is no limit to the number of topical articles you may submit, but the articles are used at the discretion of the committee and publisher. The articles also may be edited for content, length, and accuracy. B. Each article is subject to the same photographic rules as are listed for family articles. C. Church, school, clubs, businesses, memory, etc. articles are limited to 250 words. D. Communities and other major articles are allowed 600-750 words.
VII. Ads, Tributes, and Memorials A. These are sold after the manuscript is completed. B. The committee and publisher reserve to restrict the type of advertisements, i.e. alcohol, tobacco, etc. will not be accepted. C. Four sizes are sold: Two full-pages @ $450.00, Full-page @ $250.00, one-half page @ $137.50, and one-quarter page @ $75.00.
VIII. Restrictions A. We will not print articles that embarrass or harm people. B. Genealogical charts and tabular material will not be used. C. Spurious material will not be used. D. Pioneer material is subject to verification.
